Korean Meetup just before Christmas: a warming December Sunday evening drink and perhaps a little food after meeting in Starbucks. We will meet up at the Starbucks on 60-66 Wardour St, which is near Soho, at 6.30pm on Sunday 20 December. There will be Korean Meetup signs out on the table. All are welcome, no matter what level of Korean or whether you are an attendee of many a London Korean Meetup or this is your first. We will meet in the Starbucks and then go on from there, perhaps to a nearby Korean restaurant or a pub. Anticipate having lots of conversation in English and Korean with those who have interests in and/or connections with Korea. One pound charge per person.

This day marks three years since the London Korean Language Meetup Group was founded. So hoping that this is a good day for a meetup! As it is our "birthday" meetup, this event will be free of charge. We will meet up at the Starbucks on Wardour St, which is near Soho, at 7pm on 7 November. This coffee shop was the monthly Saturday venue of the meetup until recently. Hope that lots of you can make it. All are welcome, no matter what level of Korean or whether you an attendee of many a London Korean meetup or this is your first. We will meet in the Starbucks and then go on from there, probably to a nearby Korean restaurant and then perhaps a pub. Anticipate having lots of conversation in English and Korean with those who have an interests in and connections with Korea.

Speakers of English and Korean unite! Language exchange focused meetup for those who are conversational level or above in Korean and English at a quiet bar venue in a very central London location (about ten minutes walk from Oxford Street). For a map of the location, see the website of the bar linked in the venue details given here. It is recommended that participants at this meetup have a level of Korean at conversational or above. We would like to have a session where those with conversational level or above Korean and English can informally study and practise Korean and/or English, and help others with their Korean and/or English in return. We are aiming this meetup at people who have a level of Korean and English that is from lower intermediate to native speaker - ie at least ability to basically benefit from an hour just conversing in Korean/English, even if far from full fluency and still making lots of mistakes. This should allow us to have at least one hour's solid Korean practice then one hour's solid English practice. If you can think of a couple (not overly complicated to begin with) topics to talk about that would be even better, for example, we could try "Fun places to visit in Korea and Britain". This session is intended as a language exchange, so we will speak Korean for the first hour and English for the second. We will aim to meet near the main bar on the ground floor, but may move down to the basement bar later on in the evening if the atmosphere is more suitable there. We will keep the meetup signs out. "The largest Korean event in Europe" This annual event (returning after a year's break) brings together a wide variety of sights, sounds, and tastes of Korea, and sets them in a park in Kingston, not far from the large London Korean centre of New Malden. There will be Korean dance, martial arts, music, dress, food, games, and a "Korea’s got talent" show. In previous years the atmosphere has been excellent and unique. As usual, we can also have some time to sit together and chat in English and/or Korean in between seeing the attractions. Newcomers are very welcome, as always. The line-up is said to include: B-boys dance performance, Korean food stalls, kimchi-making, a traditional dance group from Korea, and a traditional Korean wedding ceremony. We will meet all together at Kingston rail station, which is a train ride of about thirty minutes from London Waterloo station (rail tickets appear to be 6.50 return). We will gather in the ticket hall inside Kingston rail station, by the main ticket machines. I will hold a Korean meetup sign and a Korean newspaper. We meet there at 1200, and will wait for people until 1215 only. The park where the festival takes place is a five or ten minute walk from the station. The event itself finishes at 1830 and is on Fairfield Recreation Ground in Kingston. The Kingston Borough website advertises that there are "many free events", suggesting that there is no fixed entrance charge (unlike a previous year when the entrance charge was a couple of pounds, as I remember). I will update this if I get any more information. I will not be charging a meetup event fee this time. !!UPDATE!! MEETING STILL GOING AHEAD DESPITE TUBE STRIKES. IF TUBE IS NOT GOING, MANY BUSES GO NEAR TO OUR SPOT. Taking advantage of the long summer evenings, a meetup is planned in a beautiful central London park. We can sit outside and chat, while learning Korean and English. As always, newcomers are warmly welcomed. The organisers will not provide food and drink, but participants could bring food and drink themselves - for the picnic experience. This is not actually compulsory though. People might also like to bring a sheet or similar to sit on. "Location" (above) provides directions to the place where we will meet, and a map with a red marker to the spot where it is planned we sit (you can zoom in on this marker). A website for the park, where there is a map of the park, is also given. If the weather is not pleasant enough to sit outside (this can happen in the UK!), we will meet at the same time in a nearby good pub (again, see "Location", where there is also a website link to the pub). Unless the weather is really horrible, please try the park meeting place first before coming to the pub. We may decide that we want to move indoors after a bit anyway, in which case we will head for this pub. If we are in the pub, we will try to sit as close to the bar as possible. On this occasion we won't be making any charge for attending the meetup.

Meet over a glass and a Korean meal at the "only pub in Britain that is also a Korean restaurant". Study and practise Korean and/or English. Enjoy friendly conversation in the spirit of cultural exchange. This quirky pub has a split personality. It appears from the outside to be an ordinary traditional British pub, but is Korean-owned and serves good Korean food. It is definitely worth checking out. Members are strongly encouraged to try to speak in both English and Korean with each other as much as they can throughout the evening (from "nice to meet you/ban-gap-sum-ni-da"!), and to teach and learn the languages in equal measures if possible. Beginner level to bilingual welcome.
The price for joining this meetup, 11 pounds person, includes a Korean meal and soft drink. We think that this represents excellent value, and feedback from members on food and atmosphere at previous meetups here has been very good. NB: Could everyone please be prepared to settle this amount IN CASH on arrival at the pub. There is a cash machine by the tube station. I am having meet-up @ old Justice regularly on Thursdays. We will watch movie and eat dinner. After this, we will talk over about Korean expressions.
