Bethel Korean School in Ellicott City, Maryland, (just north of Columbia) offers Korean classes for adults. The classes are held one night per week and are offered at the beginning and intermediate levels. I've been a student at the school for the past 2 years. It's run by and held at Bethel Korean Church but there is no requirement for any church attendance or religious affiliation. Since there are so few opportunities for adults to study Korean outside of normal daytime college hours, I just wanted to "spread the word." The teachers are very nice and supportive; it's not a stressful or competitive atmosphere at all. Please contact the school for more information: 410-461-1235 x21 fax:410-461-6823
Good luck to everybody studying Korean! Courtney |

Thanks for the info, Courtney! If you have an opportunity to take their classes, please don't hesitate...I have heard good things about them from other students.
Their website, www.bethelchurch.org, seems to not want to load on my work computer..I will check it out later and get back to you. I hope we'll be able to access it; it's in Korean and they have online translations of "Our Daily Bread" in case anyone's interested. |

Hi Shannon,
I've actually been in their classes for the past 2 years---ever since they started offering adult Korean. The church also has an online English language site too which will carry Korean class information by late spring. It's www.hisway.org (I would post the email address for the school but there are just too many spammers in this world!) The book they use is also pretty good. It's called You Speak Korean! and it comes in a series. It's very good for people in an almost self-study situation. It does, however, have a big emphasis on college student life that's reflected in dialogues and some of the early vocabulary. The books are, unfortunately, only available through Paradigmbusters.com for those wishing to use the books but not attend the school. The school actually buys the books and sells them to the students at a discounted rate otherwise. Courtney |
